Iker Martinez And Xabier Fernandez (ESP)

 Nomination
Two years out, sailing the Volvo Ocean Race with MoviStar, then straight back into the 49er and within a few weeks a dominant victory at Hyères – Martinez and Fernandez have not only been ‘the force’ in 49er sailing for some time now, they have also proved adept at switching from lightweight skiffs to TP52s, Volvo 70s and the like. Seems that they also manage the switch back quite well
 Why they won
It was a fascinating tussle this month between Spain’s 49er stars and their recent Volvo Ocean Race employer, Bouwe Bekking, himself now an honourary Spaniard! ’Yet more confirmation about the strength of Spanish sailors coming from our beautiful Cantabrico sea!’ – Jacobo Garcia; ‘These guys are just the best, even after their time away sailing with “our” Mr Bekking’ – Juan Anaristizabal; ‘We are very proud of these guys, we just love them’ – Clientes; ‘Iker and Xabi are the best!!!’ – Inigo Sanchez; ‘Go Iker, go Xabi’ – OJ (sic).
