For three years Antoine Cardin of the Judel-Vrolijk office has been involved in developing 2021 Fastnet runner-up Ino – ex-Oystercatcher 30 – whose offshore performances under IRC improve steadily every season. We asked him about the process of keeping a nine-year-old production boat at the top of a modern IRC fleet
Oystercatcher 30 – now Ino XXX – was built for Richard Matthews as one of five HH42s designed by our office and production- built in China by Paul Hakes, whose idea it was to create a fast production IRC racer at this size range (remember this was before the Fast40 was talked about.) One HH42 is in America, one is now in the Baltic, one in Italy and one in Malta. They all have different stories but they all started out exactly the same.
