In the mid-1920s Frank Morgan Giles dominated YRA 14-footer racing with beautiful, fast – and costly – carvel-built designs. Elsewhere others favoured a more robust and cheaper approach. In Cowes, by the end of 1926, Frank Morgan Giles had made a serious enemy. Undisputed designer-king of the 14ft dinghy, today’s International 14, someone had decided, quite determinedly and deliberately, to take his crown.
