Building...

With today's international growth of IRC the steady trickle of custom designs seen in recent years might just be turning into a rush; currently there are interesting boats under construction on both sides of the Atlantic and elsewhere. Designer Mark Mills discusses his own recently launched new IRC 39 Mariners' Cove and takes a look at IRC development for 2006 and beyond

Mariners' Cove is our latest custom IRC design, built by Vision Yachts in Cowes for Cork owner David Dwyer. Continuing our successful IRC Cruiser/Racer formula established with the Malaysian-built DK46, the MAT 12, and most recently Tiamat, she blends the best features of a high-performance IRC raceboat with an enhanced cockpit and interior to produce a truly dual-purpose design. Working alongside project manager Peter Morton, David has organised a very strong campaign for 2006 that will include the Irish and then the UK IRC Nationals, Cork Week and Cowes Week, as well as the Commodores' Cup.

With the Commodores' Cup providing the most stringent rating limits of these events, fitting into its middle boat slot had the strongest impact on the parameters of this design.
