Modern sail development has seen some major changes over the past 10 years, but nowhere more so than in the Moth class. Any yachtie that has picked up a sailing magazine or knows how to use the internet has no doubt seen many of the developments that we have been doing with hydrofoils over the past two years, but one of the less obvious successes with the foils lies aloft, in the rig!

In 1994 windsurf sail designer and former Australian Moth champion Andrew McDougall, from KA Sails in Melbourne, was approached by Tim Webster from Sydney to create a new sail for him to use in the 1995 Moth world championships. At the time bolt-rope sails made from Mylar remained the weapon of choice for most of the Moth fleet. However...
