Leading trimaran exponent Nigel Irens considers the future of the ORMA 60 Class

The Transat Jacques Vabre represents all that is best in the tradition of oceanic free-formula racing. The biennial 5,000-mile two-handed race from Le Havre to Salvador de Bahia is by any standards a gruelling test of tactical skill, seamanship and endurance that should entirely live up to public expectations of what a hard ocean race is about. In so doing it also has a good chance of living up to the expectations of those sponsors who patiently plough their PR budgets into keeping their trimarans competitive enough to be up among the frontrunners.
