UPSCALE

In the third part of this series, we talk to model yachting world champion Graham Bantock about current development beyond the 1 Metre class and about how recent model development relates to changes seen at full scale

Background

The Marblehead has only recently been displaced as the most popular international class of RC yacht. It originally dates back to 1932 when the Marblehead Massachussetts Sailing Club found the model was becoming increasingly popular, largely because the maximum hull length fitted neatly into the back of a car. Seventy years on and world championship entries are still good, averaging around 80 each year, and the level of competition is high.
