In the last article, in Seahorse June, we established that there is quite a difference between modern 18ft skiff designs, and that the way you set up these different designs has a major influence on performance. We can now take a more overall look at a crew¹s priorities, and in particular at the areas that contribute most to actually sailing an 18ft skiff to maximum efficiency: the reality is that even a modern, relatively Œautomated¹ 18 demands so much that many crews still spend too much time on the mechanics to the detriment of basic boathandling skills.
